"What was the LMS?" The literal answer, so we are told, is that it was, in its time (1923-47), the largest Joint Stock Corporation operating a railway anywhere in the world. But this answer merely begs the question: what really was the LMS?

Description: A maroon body, bonnet and open rear loading bed on a black chassis with a white ribbed roof; seats and steering wheel – LHD in black plastic; radiator-grille, windscreen, headlights and side-lamps in chrome; gold 12 spoke wheels on black tyres; white ‘LMS’ logo with lettering on both sides; parcels load.
